Despite this his swag and style has gain him millions of fans and the wrath of high-profile
Individuals such as Bill O’ Reilly (his biggest critic). He sold more than twelve million albums
and helped define an entire genre of music. Ludacris was born Christopher Bridges and spent his
first 12 years in Champaign, Illinois. As a child Chris always had a talent for rapping. "Since I
was a kid, I was always a little entertainer," – (Ludacris). His parents was still in college when
Chris was born; they used to take him to parties to break dance. He grew up around hip-hop
music, and recalled writing and recording demo tapes when he was just a child. He moved with
his family to Atlanta when he was 12 years old. Atlanta is where Ludacris spent most of his life
and where his years of real growth and development took begin. After graduating in 1995, he
attended Georgia State University as a music business major for a while, but dropped out to
pursue his rapping aspirations. This also was a time when he developed Ludacris, his outlandish
alternate persona. "I have a split personality; the nickname is something I made up—part of me
is calm, cool, and collective, while the other side is just beyond crazy." – (Ludacris).
Ludacris started his rap carrier by competed in local hip-hop talent shows, and sending a demo tapes to
Atlanta's Hot 97-FM. This earned him an internship at the radio station. He started recording
promotional spots that aired on the station. When his voice was heard throughout Atlanta, a
major break came through for Ludacris when hip-hop producer Timbaland hired him to work on
the single "Fat Rabbit" from his 1998 album Tim's Bio. Soon after, Ludacris decided to release
his first record on his own. His debut, Inconegro, on his own Disturbing the Peace label, hit
Atlanta record stores in 2000. It ended up selling 30,000 copies. The success results were his first
signing at Def Jam Records. Now as a big time rapper Ludacris has won many awards over the
years in his carrier. Awards such as: Grammy Award, for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, 2004;
Grammy Award, for Best Rap Album, 2006; Grammy Award, for Best Rap Song, 2006; Spirit of Youth Award, 2007. -(Rap Genuis.com)
